The three steps of CD mastering

CD mastering is all about editing and enhancing the quality of audio data with the help of high-end equipment. Basically, the professionals level up the sound and loudness of the CD without distorting it, which makes the final product sound better and clearer.

CD mastering stages

Assembly editing – After the recording is completed, the CDs are transferred to a digital editor who is also known as a sound engineer. The tunes are arranged in order and the sound engineer also places proper space between each of the cuts. The start and end cuts are faded which gives a professional touch to the audio. Throughout the session any unwanted pops, clicks and other noises are fixed.

Sweetening – In this stage, the engineers use devised signal processors such as compressors, equalisers and limiters, which will help in avoiding an overloaded cutter head. According to the requirement of the music, the level of clarity is raised and audio smoothness is added to the CD. The main aim of this stage is to enhance the overall quality of the CD.

Output – After the assembly editing and sweetening stages, the finished music tracks are converted into CD data for mass production. This process includes CD replication or duplication services. It completely depends on the requirements of the clients.

CD mastering helps in enhancing the audio mixes so that they sound as good as possible. So, before distributing any music CDs in the market, you cannot afford to ignore the most important service, which is CD mastering.
