The seriousness of CD and DVD piracy

October 5, 2009
Posted in DVD copying — Written by Drew

CD and DVD piracy has totally destroyed many industries. It is eating away at the profits of many established and well known record labels and film production companies all over the world. As a result, many of these companies have now filed for bankruptcy and have gone out of business.

Piracy can actually be compared to stealing. This is because CD and DVD piracy actually involves the copying and selling the material without buying the rights to the material. The people involved in piracy then sell these fake or duplicate copies for a much lesser price on the black market. This in turn affects the movie and music industry in a very bad way. Piracy has become so rampant nowadays that it has become easy for people to get their hands on an illegal CD or DVD. Though there may be anti-piracy laws to protect industries against piracy, they do not have that much effect as it can be difficult to trace the origin of the CD or DVD.

The movie and the music industry have gone through a lot of hardships because of CD and DVD piracy. Piracy can only be eliminated if people stop buying pirated CDs and DVDs. Thus, piracy has to be treated as a very serious crime in order it to be stopped.
